As a guest of White Desert, on this expedition, he’ll take you out of your comfort zone and teach you how to embrace your own explorer ambition.

The Explorer Academy’s itinerary will teach you how to man-haul, navigate, and traverse the dangerous fields of crevasses on foot. The terrain seems impossible, but you’ll learn how to drive a 6×6 vehicle over it, as well as how to cook your meals in one of Earth’s most remote camp sites. After all, you’re here to discover exactly what it means to be a polar explorer.

Your journey begins in Cape Town. You’ll be flown from Cape Town to the Wolf’s Fang Runway on Antarctica by private jet. You’ll then acclimate to the region at the company’s Whichaway Camp before you really delve into the activities planned.

Your first day, you’ll rope-walk above a 200-foot cliff. Afterwards, you’ll delve into the ice cave maze just below the glacier’s surface. On Day 2, you’ll camp in the foothills of a vast mountain range. You’ll spend the day climbing one of the range’s smaller peaks. On each of the four days, you’ll learn a new skill as Ben teaches you what it’s like to be a true polar explorer – albeit condensed into a short time-frame. Short as it is, you’ll still learn exactly what it’s like to work in the remotest part of the world.

White Desert also offers eight- and 11-day trips to immerse yourself in the region. The eight-day excursion, Emperors of the South Pole, is a zero-impact tour through the living quarters of the largest Emperor penguin population. The 11-day trip combines the Big 6 of Africa with the Emperors of Antarctica.
